Welcome to Connect Brazil’s Listener’s Choice Winners for Brazilian music in 2023.
2022 was an impressive year for fans of Brazilian music and culture. Brazil celebrated its bicentennial year, and with it came milestone anniversaries for several important songs, albums, and events.
The Year In Music
Our listeners celebrated the 60-year anniversaries of Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd’s Jazz Samba album and Bossa Nova’s legendary concert at Carnegie Hall.
Connect Brazil’s readers discovered the story behind the first recording of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s ‘Aguas de Março’ (The Waters of March) to mark the song’s 50th year.
They enjoyed learning about the 50th anniversary of Clube Do Esquina as Milton Nascimento prepared to end live performances, with a final concert tour.
Fans returned to local venues large and small to enjoy live music from their favorite musicians. Many of Brazil’s stars toured the US, including Marisa Monte, Eliane Elias, Sergio Mendes, and Roberto Carlos.
We said goodbye to Pelé, Jô Soares, Gal Costa, Erasmo Carlos, and Elza Soares.
