Edward Blanco | All About Jazz
“Elias’ Time and Again is one of the most pleasurable and enticing vocal jazz albums.“
Internationally renowned Brazilian jazz pianist and vocalist Eliane Elias presents her third recording on the Candid label—and the 32nd release of her long and distinguished career—on the innovative and creative Time and Again, a collection of eight new original sambas, which feature her piano, keyboards and singing in both English and Portuguese.
In bringing the music to life, Elias records in various formats with a host of musicians, 15 in all, spread throughout the album. These include drummer Peter Erskine and bassist Marc Johnson along with various special guests such as guitarist Bill Frisell, percussionists Marivaldo dos Santos and Davi Vieira, plus vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, among others.

George W. Harris | Jazz Weekly
“Eliane Elias has released yet another impressive and creative album.“
This time around she focuses on Sambas, all of them being originals. The real treat here is that most of the songs… are supplemented by gorgeous and tasty vocal background arrangements from Mark Kibble, adding an extra breeze to the warm beachy feel.
Elias is upbeat and dreamy on things like “At First Sight”, and her percussive voice is a charmer as she digs in on the delectable “Falo do Amor”. She and the voices even get into a bit of R&B on “It’s Time” while there’s an Ivan Lins-ish feel to the confident “A Volta”, with Bill Frisell’s guitar blending with the voices on the reflective, moody, and dreamy “Too Late”. She cozies up to Djavan on a soulful “Sempre”, and even without any other vocal support, she glides around Mainieri’s vibes on the romantic “How Many Times”

“Just when you thought summer was going to be a bore, Eliane’s album reminds us that there’s joy in heat and humidity. Imagine you’re on the beach in Rio.”
Eliane Elias is one of the finest jazz pianists around today. What’s more, she has a gorgeous voice, and her original compositions are exquisite.
Now Eliane is out with a new album—Time and Again, her 32nd release. Like her Grammy-nominated Quietude (Candid) in 2022, this one is a journey through Brazil.
The songs are all originals and pure Brazil, with Eliane singing in both English and Portuguese. Midway through each song, she takes flight on a piano solo. The high points for me are At First Sight, Making Honey, A Volta, and Sempre, on which she’s joined by Djavan

Jake Funkmayor | Funk City
“Eliane Elias is one of the most distinguished jazz vocalists of our lifetimes. Eleven Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations with two Grammys and two Latin Grammy wins.”
I’ve been a listener and fan of this wonderful Brazilian artist since she arrived in New York in the early 1980s. Initially, I was drawn in when Eliane was a member of the cutting-edge band Steps Ahead.
On Time and Again, there’s a mix of English and Portuguese vocals, and each song is equally inviting. Eliane has an amazing, distinctive voice and style that is so soothingly soft and silky. The album is very upbeat and I find it a great de-stresser, equally warm at home, on a long drive, or even for workout time.
Time And Again gives us Elias’ unique blend of her Brazilian roots and mastery of jazz, R&B, and popular song.

Angel Romero | World Music Central
“This album grabs your attention from the very first second.”
Produced by Eliane alongside Marc Johnson and Steve Rodby… [Time And Again] features some of the finest musicians in the Brazilian and American contemporary jazz scene: guitarists Conrado Goys, Marcus Teixeira, and Daniel Santiago; acoustic bassist Marc Johnson; electric bassist Marcelo Mariano; and drummers Edu Ribeiro and Cuca Teixeira.
Guest musicians include luminaries like vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, drummer Peter Erskine, guitarist Bill Frisell, percussionists Marivaldo dos Santos and Davi Vieira, and fantastic wordless vocals by Mark Kibble. Kibble is known for his work with Take 6, who previously collaborated with Eliane on her Grammy-winning album Made in Brazil.
The passionate opening track, ‘At First Sight’, combines melody and lyrics to convey the exhilarating feeling of instant love. ‘Falo do Amor’ (I Talk About Love) is dedicated to Eliane’s granddaughter, Lucy, and celebrates the joy and inspiration she brings.
‘A Volta’ (The Return) offers a contemporary Brazilian rhythm in ¾ time, depicting the anticipation of waiting. ‘Too Late,’ the final song, explores the regret of a relationship’s end.
